Trinidad & Tobago's new Prime Minister!

Okay so it's late and time for me to go to bed but I will just like to say CONGRATULATIONS to Trinidad and Tobago's new Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar! First woman Prime Minister. Change has begun! Congrats! Now I can sleep in peace. Tomorrow the country can begin healing and getting back on track!

BBC News - Voting under way in Trinidad and Tobago snap election

BBC News - Voting under way in Trinidad and Tobago snap election:

"Trinidad and Tobago is one of the wealthiest countries in the Caribbean, thanks to its large reserves of oil and gas."

Voting is presently taking place in sweet T&T.

Let's hope everyone goes out and exercise their right to vote and VOTE for change!

I think that if you are able to vote you should get yourself registered and go vote, that
way you are entitled to a say afterwards. It's so disgusting when people complain and complain
about a situation and then when they are allowed the opportunity to make changes they sit
back and do nothing!

Let's see what the results will be tonight.

How to dance in the rain!

Okay so I'm working on assignment six and stopped to check my email and I got a lovely forward from a cousin which I decided to share. It's a very heartwarming tale and I think it will help to bring a smile to your face or at least a tug to your heart. It reminded me a little bit of the Notebook actually.

It was a busy morning, about  8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an  appointment at  9:00 am. I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning. He said no, he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife.
I inquired as to her health. He told me she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied she no longer knew who he was, she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every morning, even though she
doesn't know who you are?' He smiled as he patted my hand and said,
'She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is.'

I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, 'That is the kind of love I want in my life.' True love is neither physical, nor romantic.

True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.

'Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.’

I hope this warmed your heart. The picture you are seeing to the side is one that my best friend shared with me this morning... so it's copyrighted to her :-) Isn't it absolutely beautiful? Has a calming effect doesn't it?

My blog posting on another site!

Okay so maybe I am getting a little too excited about this, but I am accustomed to blogging about stuff that I'm thinking or doing or even sometimes putting things from other sources on the web! Well tonight I was being idle and I googled "leandraluv" and I came across a website that had a blog posting of mine! I was super duper excited to see that and  just wanted to share the news with you guys. You can check it out here if you don't believe me!

Now getting started

Okay so yesterday passed with a blur ... I ended up spending some lazy time in bed, watching tv then reading my romance novel and checking my emails and even doing some 'work' on webanswers. Then my husband came back and was like - how did your work on the TESOL course come along? "What? Are you serious? Nah man Leandra ... I can't believe you didn't do anything all day!" My response, "Oh leave me alone. I promise tomorrow I'll do it" to which I had to hear - "You know how long you promising that?" :-)

Okay so we went out for dinner last night and walked around. Our plan to see Iron Man 2 were foiled so tonight the adventure begins... our first time using the metro in Rio!

This morning I got up, had breakfast with the hubby and then got right down to finishing my romance novel - spoiler alert - the guy gets the girl in the end!

So now I have my 'frango pastels' here to devour for lunch (but what is keeping the cleaning lady?). I don't want to start chomping down on lunch to be disturbed whilst she is making up the bed and cleaning the bathroom! So I decided to blog a little bit and kill some time.... but still no cleaning room service. Come on! It's like 11:39am... doesn't she know that I have work to get done?

Okay so since I promised last night and I already got a mid morning call to find out what I'm doing... I WILL DO an assignment today! I was already threatened jokingly of course - no work - no DINNER!! Now you know I am a gal who loves to eat..so threats like that, I have no choice but to take serious!

Have a great Tuesday people!

Week in Rio de Janeiro

So far for the morning I've read to emails - one from my best friend and the other from a close aunt and both said things along the line of my being a "lucky girl" and "living the life" and those sentiments have me thinking - am I really so lucky? I decided that maybe I should look at the silver lining on the cloud right?

I know I am a lucky girl - I get to travel all over and since I am home I get to do whatever the heck I feel to do. This week in my life I get to spend time in hotel in Rio which means - no cleaning and cooking and no other housework for a week... I CAN'T COMPLAIN. My husband did tell me this morning that he doesn't mind if I was the one going to work every morning and he get's to stay at home ... he swears the apartment would be spotless and I'd get hot meals every day when I get home! I do feel a little bad that every morning he has to go off to work and I'm at home scratching... I asked him if he doesn't want to kill me on a morning when I'm still sleeping...mouth wide open and snoring away whilst he is getting ready for work.. Terrible! I know.. but soon I hope to start doing something productive! Really... I'm being honest :-)

I got up at 6:30am to go have breakfast with my husband who took off to go to work and I wanted to chat with him before he left for the day. Now I am back in the hotel room and I should be geared to start doing some work - I have lots of little things that keep piling up - my TESOL course, my blogging, webanswers and not to mention tons of emails about different things I keep discovering online and I keep labeling the emails all to read later.... I am a great PROCRASTINATOR .. did I ever mention that? I am the #1 at it - not something I should be boasting about I know!

Anyways so here I am listening to music - right now I am loving "Hold Yuh" by Gyptian .. I know right? Hahahaha oh well what can I say? I think I'll check out what's going on television and then I'll get started on my TO DO list. I know some might say - why not go out and explore Rio city? Well I've been here before and I got to visit Ipanema and Copacabana and frankly I am a little scared to venture out into the city by myself one because of my pathetic Portuguese and the other - I am afraid of the crime. I don't want to go get myself in any trouble out there! So I think it's best to stay and tackle some of the 'academic' stuff that I need to get done. Somehow when I was in Paris and Madrid I had no problem venturing out by myself... here I am a little more wary.. maybe it has to do with all the security warnings we got when we arrived in this country!

Well folks,
I am off to go do something productive and I'll keep you guys updated on my 'doings'.
Have a great week people!

Webanswers and GoogleAdsense

Just a little update. Some of you may remember that I started blogging as a means of earning money with Google Adsense, but I've only made like less than $3 with my blog .. but I still continue because I've grown to really like blogging.

Anyways on my quest to earn money through Google Adsense I told you guys about webanswers! Well I joined on January 19th 2010 and guess what.. I am only $0.60 cents away from earning my second hundred! I haven't received a check as yet though but that's because my PIN number didn't arrive until like 3 months after. So I think that webanswers is definitely worth it.. I earn most of my adsense money through that site even though I was on vacation for the entire month of April.. Yay me!!!

So I'll close with that good news for the night.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Easiest Cake Recipe in the World

I have to share this recipe! I got it as an email and I don't know who came up with it or where it originated from so I can't credit the person for sharing this recipe but I still want to share it. It's lunch time here and I just finished eating lunch and started craving something sweet... there was nothing in the kitchen other than sugar and Nesquik chocolate powder that I use to make hot chocolate to drink at night. Then I remembered this email I got a long time ago and I searched my inbox, made the cake and enjoyed it! So here it is. Do enjoy! And thanks to whomever created it!

MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE!!

 4 tablespoons flour
 4 tablespoons sugar
 2 tablespoons cocoa
 1 egg
 3 tablespoons milk
 3 tablespoons oil
 3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract and your favourite tipple
 1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to your largest mug and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using), vanilla extract and a drop or two of your favourite tipple, then mix again.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (high).
 The
cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!

Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.

EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

And why is this the most dangerous
cake recipe in the world? Because now you are only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night! You are going to forward this straight away, aren't you...

Okay so there you go! Do enjoy!
Have a great day.
